aloe.mastThis blog is for myself and others who are or may be suffering from the skin condition called ROSACEA. I was diagnosed with Rosacea about six years ago, in my mid to late thirties. I had extremely nice skin prior to this diagnosis and the onset was also very unusual. Generally rosacea is known to affect the facial area only. In my case, possibly a reaction to a needle from a medical clinic; Rosacea may have been a result, but initially my entire body broke out into red hive-type marks. It was devastating, and like facial rosacea the immediate emergency treatment was a dose of antibiotics. At the time, this appeared to resolve the issue. But I was left with a slight redness on my neck and legs, and arms that any general observer would never recognize for a change in appearance.

However, a few years later I had some gynecological issues and the result was a diagnosis of keratosis and rosacea. This is just a personal opinion, and I have been told that although stress and hormones may induce some skin disorders, there is nothing conclusive in this theory.

In any event, over the years I have tried many cures for rosacea: various antibiotics, prescription skin lighteners (to fight off melasma), homeopathic remedies (non-prescribed), and most successfully, all-natural herbal treatments from reading online advise on forums and research articles.

Most recently, I agreed, having read on the trusted Yahoo! Rosacea forum, I agreed to become part of a trial study for the new over the counter product AloeMaxx - the gel and capsules combined. The ingredients are on the “natural” side, and I use over-the-counter aloe products daily to control any burning sensations on my nose and cheeks that result in redness and postules.

Thus far, Aloemaxx has succeeded where Finacea (a non-steroid concentrated retinen-type treatment for rosacea used topically) was what I previously applied on my face in a prescription form.

AloeMaxx is superb at handling the monthly breakouts and because it can be applied liberally without the need to “clock” the applications, it is suitable for use anywhere and does not harm my skin as many of the harsher products I have tried have done (Retin-A for example and glycolic products).

The Rosacea Support Forum has answers to most general questions about Rosacea. It is also a good contact page that works with Yahoo!’s Rosacea Forum.
